I’ve noted my shark obsession before. This was a self-serving birthday cake I made for my husband. I mean, he isn’t complaining because he got to eat it, but clearly, the decorations were really for me!
For the cake, I just made my favorite Devil’s Food (again!) recipe. I then whipped up a batch of buttercream frosting and divided it in half. One half stayed white, the other half I dyed blue. Using a rubber spatula, I messily applied the white frosting and then started adding in the blue, swirling it all together to give it the appearance of waves.
For an added 3-D effect, I used white and blue melting chocolate to create waves that I could stand up and press into the frosting. I just piped the two colors on top of each other on a piece of wax paper and then mixed it together before popping it in the fridge to set.
I’m definitely going to try a cupcake version of these over the summer!
